Regain Your Motivation

Written by Dave Gannaway

Learning how to regain your motivation can be easier than you think, but essential to understand nonetheless. Let me illustrate just how quickly you can regain you motivation. Think of someone who is motivated and you are always eager to impress, your coach or a lady friend.

Now imagine being down, depressed and lacking motivation. There’s a knock on the door, who is standing there? You guessed it! Notice how your motivation level leaped from zero to ten in the time it took to open the door. That is how quickly you can regain your motivation. Regain Your Motivation Learning how to regain your motivation can be easier than you think, but essential to understand nonetheless.

The person at the door was an anchor that instantly stimulated you back to motivation. Recalling that pulse of energy, that shot in the arm, required to become motivated again. Such is the importance of powerful anchors.

Understanding the process is important to retaining control of your own behavior. I have worked with many highly motivated folk who occasionally neglect to heed the warning signs and allow them-selves to become depressed. Such levels of deep depression can render us paralyzed and isolated to self help.

These cases call for a little outside help. They need what I call a ‘bump’ start . . . like a battery that is so run down it will not even begin to take a charge. It needs a quick sharp jolt, a booster shot to get it started again. Such can the case if you are stuck and need to regain your motivation. . . . Often just taking a break can resolve the flat point.

I recommend laugher as a powerful medicine. Look up one of your outrageous friends and spend an hour or two laughing at silly jokes and recalling crazy memories, or whatever it takes to make you laugh. You will be surprised how therapeutic a little craziness can be!

Such crazy moments can prove to be very stimulating, just as a burst of vigorous exercise can create moments of intense stimulus as paradoxical as that may sound. If you ever find it difficult to relax and unwind, try a little vigorous exercise relaxing immediately afterward. You’ll be surprised the effects that can have . . . taking you from the height of stimulation to the deepest relaxation, very quickly.

The greatest benefit of all is, naturally, to have control over your own behavior. To be in charge . . . to consciously recognize symptoms and deal with them to regain motivation before it becomes a problem.
